Weekend Getaways Close to Home

After a stressful week, sometimes a quick getaway can replenish your batteries and restore your energy. Although choosing which destination to travel to can be daunting when you are only going to have a few days free.

New York City
Depending on where you are coming from, The Big Apple can be reached very easily by flying, driving, or taking a train. Don’t let weather deter you; indoor activities like popular museums or Broadway shows are plentiful, while outdoor activities such as the High Line and Central Park can also be lovely even in the winter.

Both the striking iconic landmark known as the Statue of Liberty and famous Ellis Island can be accessed by ferry.

San Francisco
San Francisco is one of the most gorgeous cities in the nation with its legendary Golden Gate Bridge, Victorian architecture dotting the steep hills, interesting and distinctive neighborhoods, cable cars, and lovely weather all year long.

If you love sports, take in a baseball game at AT&T Park and check out its spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay.

Washington, D.C.
Not only is America's capital chock full of free points of interest, many of them are found on the National Mall, making it easy to see the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and other highlights in just a matter of days.

While visiting, don't miss out on the popular weekend brunch scene – just be sure to make reservations in advance.

New Orleans

You can't tackle all of the Big Easy's most popular sights in one weekend, but its diverse offerings make it easy to pick activities based on your interests.

History aficionados can check out The National WWII Museum, while outdoorsy types can wander through City Park. Anyone spending time in New Orleans has to allocate some time to wander around the legendary French Quarter (preferably in the evening) and save some appetite for the delectable traditional beignets.

Nashville, NC

Part mountain village, part hipster retreat, this North Carolina locale is a haven for outdoorsy people and beer lovers.

The renowned Appalachian Trail passes through the area if you want to hike a segment, and nearby Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway also offer wonderful day hikes. When you have worked up an appetite, stop in at one of the regional breweries to enjoy one of the 100-plus local beers and some tasty food.

With its unique and varied neighborhoods, great food scene, historic architecture, and other fun activities, Chicago is a fantastic weekend getaway.

When the temperatures are mild, check out the legendary sculpture nicknamed “The Bean” or take a tour down the Chicago River to see the beautiful architecture. Chicago has a rich culture of notable museums such as the Field Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago; perfect for those cold Chicago winter days.

Seattle is a vibrant hipster city renowned for its coffee culture (Starbucks started here) as well as the iconic Space Needle and vibrant Pike Place Market with its cool bars and restaurants.

Outdoor adventurers will want to spend time on striking Mount St. Helens, an active volcano, or in the gorgeous Discovery Park. Take an umbrella, but don’t let the city’s famous rainy weather deter you; it is typically just a light drizzle or mist.
